  ALBERT ALVAREZ -# 14
Albert Alvarez

 

INFSan Diego State | 6’0" | 170 lbs.  | Freshman | R/R | Yuma, AZ

Profile: Played some as a backup middle infielder for the Aztecs, participating in 13 games. Albert played summer baseball for the highly touted ABD Academy for four summers, winning the 2007 Junior Olympic Baseball West Championship. Played high school baseball at Kofa HS in Yuma , AZ and Temecula Valley HS in California and was an All-Region selection at both. Prototypical middle infielder with great hands, range and running speed.

PROFILE: Lefty hitter who had a career season in 2009 at Cisco JC (TX). He was selected to the Region V All Region Team after batting .459 with 21 doubles, two triples, three homers and 56 RBI He had 25 multi hit games and had a four double game. In NTJCAC stats, he ranked # 2 in average (.459), # 7 in RBI (56), # 13 in slugging % (.633), # 2 in hits (90).In NJCAA Division I (TX)  stats, he ranked # 3 in hits/game, # 4 in total hits, # 5 in batting average, # 8 in doubles/game, # 9 in at bats and total doubles, # 14 in total bases etc. He will hit in the# 3 hole for the UTPA Broncs in 2010.

PROFILE: Red shirt this season. Vermont High School Baseball Player of the Year last spring. Played in National Tournaments and Showcases in Arizona and Florida . Pitched comfortably in the upper eighties this fall at Palm Beach . Pitched 25 innings as a senior in HS, striking out 51 batters and allowing only nine hits with an ERA of 1.24. Throws a fastball and slider and working on a change-up as his third pitch.

PROFILE: Part of the great Cathedral Catholic Top 20 HS program that had eight seniors accept Division I offers.   He was selected to the Baseball Clearinghouse 2009 All National Team. Tommy batted .410 as a senior (43-for-105) with six doubles, a homer and 35 RBI. In a prestigious season opening tournament, he went 8-for-18 with a home run and 11 RBI. Played for the San Diego Waves last summer, a team composed of college and ex-professional players. Solid all around player, 86 mph across infield with a Perfect Game Rating of 8.5 in a 2007 Showcase.

PROFILE: A.J. had an injury red shirt season in 2009 but is back to 100% for 2010. In his freshman season (2008) he was 3-1 in 20 innings, walked 11 and struck out 17 opposing hitters with an ERA of 8.27 in short relief. Win # 2 was in relief vs. Alabama when he got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 10th inning. He had a legendary HS career, hitting .555 and had an ERA of 0.57 with 141 strikeouts in his junior season and followed up with a .515 average and a 1.46 ERA his senior season.



  HUSBAND, CASEY -# 10

PROFILE:   High School teammate of Tommy Cheek. Excellent switch hitting prospect with some versatility. In his junior season in 2008, Casey batted .413 with nine homers and 40 RBI. In 2009 he hit .378 with eight doubles, two homers and 33 RBI. Casey made the ESPN All State Baseball Second team in 2008.  



  KOEHLER, BRETT  -# 29

PROFILE: All West Jersey and All county selection after striking out 47 batters in 46 innings at Voorhees Regional HS. He had a 3.11 era. He throws upper eighties with a sharp breaking ball. He played summer baseball with the South Florida Bandits and the Jack Cust Super 17. He worked this fall at 85-87 touching 88-89 mph. He has an effective change as his third pitch. In the fall world series at W&M he threw a 1 2/3 stint allowing only one hit and struck out five.


 

  LASHMET, CHRIS  - #30

PROFILE: Key returnee from 2009 squad. Legitimate middle of the order power, RBI guy for the Golden Eagles. Ranked # 2 in homers (6), # 3 in RBI (22) in the 2009 summer season. Chris had two very good seasons for Northwestern in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Hit .296 in 2009 with five home runs and 30 RBI. In 2008 he hit .299 with four homers and 38 RBI. Last spring he hit safely in 18 of 21 games in one stretch (Mar.22-May 2) with nine multi-hit games, including a 5-for-5 game.

PROFILE:      All Area Metro St Louis First team selection all four years in high school.  Keenen possesses outstanding bat speed, is an above average runner and developing as an outfielder. He was even selected first team All State after his freshman season at Parkway West HS, hitting .482 with 35 RBI and was the “Newcomer of the Year” selection by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. He was # 2 in the St Louis area in 2009 in batting average and # 3 in home runs.  Keenen had the opportunity to play in a tribute game to the Negro League All Star East-West Game this summer. The game was at US Cellular Field ( Comiskey Park ). Keenen had a good fall season at MSU, should start in left field and have a great career at Missouri State . He went 3-for-7 in a Fall World Series game this fall.


  MCNAMARA, JIM - # 21

PROFILE:  Jim led his team at Anna Maria in wins, complete games, strikeouts and innings pitched his sophomore season in 2009. He set the program’s career marks for wins in only his second year at AMC. Jim played in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League in the 2009 summer with the Sag Harbor Whalers and had a ERA of 1.98 (# 2 in the ACBL) through 41 innings (# 5 in ACBL). He was # 2 on the staff in starts (5). He throws mid eighties with a great straight change and an above average breaking ball. He is the brother of ex Golden Eagle Shaun McNamara (Brown) who played Independent ball in the Can-Am League with the North Shore Spirits in 2006 and was selected as the Rookie of the Year, and with the Worcester Tornadoes in 2007-2008.  



  MEJIA, VINNY -# 26

PROFILE:  Cleanup hitter for UTPA this spring. Vinny was an Honorable Mention All WJCAA selection his only season at El Paso JC. He hit .307 with 11 doubles, five homers and 21 RBI while missing a month of the season due to an injury. Vinny was selected First Team All State Third Basemen by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association his senior season at Montwood HS.

  MOWATT, TORRY -# 9
TORRY MOWATT

RHP | PIMA C.C. | 6' 0" | 190 lbs. | FRESHMAN  | R/R| CORONA, CA

PROFILE:  Near the top of the Conference pitching rotation as a freshman in 2010 season. Finished the season with 47 innings pitched, 33 strikeouts, an ERA of 4.05 and a 2-2 record. He also led the team with three saves. Throws in the upper eighties and tops out at 91 mph. Secondary pitches are effective with a good curve and a great straight change. Torry’s older sister (Taryne) was a softball superstar at the University of Arizona and now plays for the Akron (OH) Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League.



  MURPHY, CLAY -# 5

PROFILE:  Outstanding high school and summer baseball career. Clay finished his high school career with a 40-10 record in four seasons. His senior season, in 2009, he went 11-1 with 85 innings pitched, 31 hits allowed, three walks , had 130 strikeouts and a 0.33 ERA. Clay throws 87-89 mph with a great breaking ball, a hard slurve at 78-81 mph. Clay played on the Cherokees Select Team (18U) last summer and went 6-2 with 15 appearances, seven starts, five complete games, 15 walks, 81 strikeouts, 1.59 ERA and a .187 average against his offerings. This fall at Missouri State , he pitched 16 innings and struck out 24 batters and held hitters to a .180 average.   



 

  NOIRFALISE, BARRETT  -# 16

PROFILE:  Barrett is a two way player who signed late at Missouri State . Lefty pitcher was throwing this summer at 88-91 mph. when observed by MSU coaches while playing for the Wichita Midwest Wolverines. He presently has two quality college pitches with his fast ball and curve and needs to work on the change as a third pitch. Barrett played center field when not pitching in high school and summer baseball. As a senior at Joplin HS he batted .387 with seven doubles, two homers, 27 RBI and 12-of-13 in stolen bases. He was selected to the First Team Joplin Globe All Area Baseball Team.  


 

  OLSEN, JUSTIN -# 12

PROFILE:  Red shirt as a frosh at Rutgers . Highly rated catcher offensively and defensively, played in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League in 2009 with the Jersey Pilots. Justin hit .344 (31-for-90) with six doubles and 19 RBI in 26 starts. He should be the # 2 catcher this spring at Rutgers while battling for some DH at bats. Perfect Game USA gave him a rating of 9.0 and a release time of 2.00 secs.


  OLSON, DAVID -# 24
David Olson

RHP/IF | TACOMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE | 6’4' | 235 lbs. | R/S FRESHMAN  | R/R | AUBURN, WA |  AUBURN HS | WASHINGTON STATE  

PROFILE: Transfer from Washington State after an injury red shirt season .in 2009. He was highly recruited out of Auburn HS as a two way Division I player. He went 9-0 with a 1.81 ERA his senior year on the mound while batting .400 with 41 RBI. He hit two grand slam homers during a game and three weeks later pitched a no hitter. David’s junior season he was 9-2 , hit .475 with 10 home runs and had 33 RBI. He is back pitching again and reached 88-89 mph this fall after topping out at 91 in high school. Perfect Game USA gave him a PG Rating of 10.0, the highest possible. David played for the Kitsap Blue Jackets in the 2009 summer.  



  OWENS, ARTHUR  -# 8

PROFILE:  Arthur hit .440, .360 and .415 his three seasons at Sandy Creek HS and earned All County honors each year. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 38th round of the 2009 MLB draft. He had a Perfect Game USA Rating of 8.5 and runs a 6.67/60 yds. Arthur’s athleticism should make him a contributor early in his career at Georgia Southern. He should start in the outfield and be the leadoff hitter for GSU.



  PENDLETON, DAN  -# 25

PROFILE:  Significant contributor as a freshman in the 2009 season. Ranked # 4 in appearances (14), pitched 29 innings, all out of the bullpen, and had a 2-2 record. Played last summer for Petersburg (VA) in the Coastal Plains League and finished with a 1-2 record and a 1.84 ERA out of the bullpen. Dan throws 87-90 mph with an outstanding split finger fastball as his most effective pitch. He is used as a long to short reliever but can close as well.   



  RETZ, RYAN -# 18
Ryan Retz

RHP | PIMA COLLEGE (AZ) | 6’0" | 190 lbs. | FRESHMAN  | R/R | TUCSON, AZ |CANYON DEL ORO HS

PROFILE:  Selected as the Player of the Year in Tucson and Southern Arizona in 2009. Rivals.com had him as the 18th best prospect (HS) in the 2009 class in Arizona .  He had a great high school career at CDO, a program that has produced major leaguers like Ian Kinsler, Scott Hairston, Chris and Shelley Duncan and Brian Anderson. He hit .379 his senior year and won six games with an ERA of 2.46. His junior year he was Player of the Year as well with 10 homers, 47 RBI with a .479 average while going 6-4 with a 2.10 ERA. He was selected All State First Team 2007-2009.  Ryan played in the Sunbelt Classic in Oklahoma for Team Arizona in 2009. The Arizona Team won the Classic and Ryan was selected as the Most Valuable Player. Ryan is a two sport participant at Pima, playing defensive back for the football team in the fall.



  SUMPLE, KYLE  -# 28

PROFILE: Weekend Conference starter as a sophomore in 2009. He had seven starts and pitched 55 innings (# 2 on staff), walked 16 and struck out 48 batters. Kyle played for the Holyoke Blue Sox of the New England Collegiate Baseball League in the 2009 summer, throwing 35 innings, allowing 30 hits, walked 16 and struck out 35 opposing hitters. Kyle throws 87-90 mph with an excellent curve and change.

He should be a rotation guy for the Golden Eagles in the 2010 summer season.

 

 

  WILLIAMS, MATT  -# 19

RHP |HUTCHINSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE | 6' 0" | 180 lbs. | SOPHOMORE  | R/R | VERO BEACH, FL |  VERO BEACH HS

PROFILE: Matt was converted to a pitcher after playing shortstop for Hutchinson for most of his freshman season. He was a relief pitcher/DH as the team went to the JC World Series. He will be a starter for Hutch in the 2010.season.  He throws 88-92 mph with a + slider at 80-84 mph. Matt pitched last summer for the Louisiana Legends summer team and was tutored by Jerry Martinez. He has gained much interest since the transition to the mound.
