Falls, NY- The Golden Eagles took an early 3-0 lead on home runs by
right fielder Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) and catcher Dan Klein (Kansas
State) but fell on a ninth inning error 4-3 in Game 1 of the East
Divisional Playoffs.
Mohawks
reliever Derrick Brewer (Radford) picked up his fourth win of the
season pitching a scoreless eighth inning while Abram Williams
(Radford) struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 11th
save of the year.
Golden
Eagles starter Kayvon Bahramzadeh went seven and two-thirds innings
allowing three runs (all unearned) on five hits, walking one and
striking out nine. He finished with a no decision.
All
four runs scored by the Amsterdam Mohawks were unearned.
Ricky
Claudio gave Glens Falls an early 1-0 lead on his fourth home run of
the season on a line drive over the right field wall.
In
the second, Dan Olsen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and
later scored on Dan Klein’s two-run home run over the left field
wall to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 3-0 on his first home run of
the season.
Golden
Eagles starter Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Kansas State) cruised until the
sixth inning when DeMarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) led off the
top of the inning with a single. Bahramzadeh struck out the shortstop
Jack Fischer (Wake Forest) and then center fielder Andrew Green got
aboard with a one-out walk. Zach Shank (Marist) struck out and then
with two-out left fielder Jude Vidrine (Lamar) cut the Golden Eagles
lead to 3-2 on a ball that Ricky Claudio lost in the lights in right
field. Bahramzadeh finished off the inning striking out catcher Luke
Maile (Kentucky).
Antwan
Brown (Santa Fe C.C.) came on in relief in the eighth inning with
runners on first and third. Amsterdam would tie the game at 3-3 on a
wild pitch scoring Zach Shank.
With
one-out in the top of the ninth, the Mohawks would take their first
lead of the game at 4-3 when DeMarcus Henderson scored on an infield
single by Josh Alexander (Utah).
David
Olsen (Tacoma C.C.) singled to lead off the bottom of the inning but
the next three Golden Eagles batters struck out to end the hard fought
opener of the division series.
Amsterdam
leads the best-of-three series 1-0 with Game 2 at Shuttleworth Park on
Saturday night. Game-time is set for 7 p.m.
If
necessary, Game 3 will be back at East Field on Sunday night against
the Mohawks.
