Glens Falls Golden Eagles

August 5, 2011

Glens Falls, NY- The Golden Eagles took an early 3-0 lead on home runs by right fielder Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) and catcher Dan Klein (Kansas State) but fell on a ninth inning error 4-3 in Game 1 of the East Divisional Playoffs.

Mohawks reliever Derrick Brewer (Radford) picked up his fourth win of the season pitching a scoreless eighth inning while Abram Williams (Radford) struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 11th save of the year.

Golden Eagles starter Kayvon Bahramzadeh went seven and two-thirds innings allowing three runs (all unearned) on five hits, walking one and striking out nine. He finished with a no decision.

All four runs scored by the Amsterdam Mohawks were unearned.

Ricky Claudio gave Glens Falls an early 1-0 lead on his fourth home run of the season on a line drive over the right field wall.

In the second, Dan Olsen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on Dan Klein’s two-run home run over the left field wall to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 3-0 on his first home run of the season.

Golden Eagles starter Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Kansas State) cruised until the sixth inning when DeMarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) led off the top of the inning with a single. Bahramzadeh struck out the shortstop Jack Fischer (Wake Forest) and then center fielder Andrew Green got aboard with a one-out walk. Zach Shank (Marist) struck out and then with two-out left fielder Jude Vidrine (Lamar) cut the Golden Eagles lead to 3-2 on a ball that Ricky Claudio lost in the lights in right field. Bahramzadeh finished off the inning striking out catcher Luke Maile (Kentucky).

Antwan Brown (Santa Fe C.C.) came on in relief in the eighth inning with runners on first and third. Amsterdam would tie the game at 3-3 on a wild pitch scoring Zach Shank.

With one-out in the top of the ninth, the Mohawks would take their first lead of the game at 4-3 when DeMarcus Henderson scored on an infield single by Josh Alexander (Utah).

David Olsen (Tacoma C.C.) singled to lead off the bottom of the inning but the next three Golden Eagles batters struck out to end the hard fought opener of the division series.

Amsterdam leads the best-of-three series 1-0 with Game 2 at Shuttleworth Park on Saturday night. Game-time is set for 7 p.m.

If necessary, Game 3 will be back at East Field on Sunday night against the Mohawks.
