GLENS FALLS, NY
- Luckily enough for your Glens Falls Golden Eagles, they were given a second crack at Albany after the 3-2 loss in the first game of Wednesday night’s double-header. The second game would also play as the regular season finale at East Field in 2011. In the official last game for the Golden Eagles the playoff scenario was simple, win and you’re in, due to the tiebreaker they have already earned over Amsterdam this season, winning the season series.
For game two, the Glens Falls coaching staff decided to send Neil Fryer (Siena) who had previously to Wednesday’s game, a 4-3 record on the season. Fryer’s counterpart in this pivotal game for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles would be Chase Tokunaga (Feather River College), who came into the game at 1-2.
Neil Fryer got the job done on Wednesday night; doing everything anyone could of hoped for from his or her starting pitcher in an important game such as Wednesday night. Neil went five innings out of the seven of the shortened game due to the double header scheduled. Over the five innings of work Neil only allowed four hits, and yielded all runners on base not allowing any runs. Fryer also struck out four of the nineteen batters he faced.
On in relief of Neil Fryer was Golden Eagles Pitcher of the Year, Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern). Before the game Kyle Ruchim was rewarded with every post season award that the Golden Eagles offer, taking home with him the Best Offensive Player award, Best Pitching Award, as well as the Mayotte Award- an award which is given to the player who best exemplifies leadership and teamwork throughout the season.
Kyle continued to dominate PGCBL opponents as he pitched the remaining two innings, and closed the victory for Fryer. Over the last two frames, Ruchim allowed two hits, no runs, and two walks. He also struck out three of the ten batters he faced. Not only did Kyle receive the save in tonight’s game, but he set a new Glens Falls Golden Eagles team record with 9 saves in a single season, breaking the previous record of 8 held by Marc Damon previously from Pima Community College in 2008. Damon currently plays his college ball at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
On the offensive, the Golden Eagles shined, as they were able to score seven runs off of Albany pitching this evening. The team was lead by a three hit performance by the always-reliable Josh Anderson (Yavapai). Anderson continued to thrive tonight in this important matchup as he has done all season. Anderson finished the game going three for four, with a run scored, and three RBIs all that came on a bases clearing three RBI triple in the sixth inning to increase the Golden Eagles lead to 7-0. Golden Eagles star Kyle Ruchim also recorded a triple in the contest, early in the first inning.
The final tonight was seven to nothing, as the Golden Eagles scored seven runs on six hits and did not record an error. The Albany Dutchman on the other hand did not plate any of their six hits on the night, and recorded two errors on defense.
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles, with the win clinched the Eastern Division of the PGCBL in its’ inaugural season. It is the first time since 2007 that the Golden Eagles were able to be crowned Regular Season Division Champions, only difference was that in 2007 they were apart of the NYCBL or New York College Baseball League.
The first round of the playoffs will began at East Field in Glens Falls, New York Friday night at 7 pm. Standard ticket sale policies as the regular season will be in effect. Come out and root your Golden Eagles towards a win and motivate them to one step closer to a championship here in the summer of 2011.
GO GOLDEN EAGLES!
