LITTLE
FALLS, NY -
Saturday, your Glens Falls Golden Eagles made a late season return to
Little Falls, New York to face off against Eastern Conference foe, the
Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. Coming into yesterday’s game, both
teams were on opposite ends of the East with the Golden Eagles coming
into the game at 27-15 in first place, and the Diamond Dawgs in last
at 15-27.
Getting
the start for Glens Falls yesterday was Nick Gonzalez (South Florida)
who would walk to the bump carrying with him a 2-1 record on the
season. For Mohawk Valley, Willie Gabay
(Herkimer County CC) would look to improve his 2-2 season
record getting the start for the Diamond Dawgs.
Things
did not go Gonzalez’s way last night as he quickly exited the game
after walking five of the first five Diamond Dawgs he faced. Along
the way, Nick also gave up two runs, and would end up with three
earned after the first inning.
With
Gonzalez’s early exit, it was apparent that the bullpen for the
Golden Eagles would be a vital asset in order to earn the victory.
First on in relief of Gonzalez was Glens Falls native, as well as
Wofford Junior, Peter Noordsy. Noordsy took the mound with a 3-0
record on the year.
Pete
would continue his great season for Glens Falls as he went four
innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. He would also walk one,
hit one, and strike out six of the sixteen batters faced. In relief of
Noordsy would be Jordan Keysor of Skidmore College. Following suit of
Noordsy, Keysor would pitch three and two thirds in relief. In that
time on the rubber Keysor would leave after allowing no runs on two
hits, a walk, and seven strikeouts. In fact, Keysor would end his day
striking out half of the batters he faced, fourteen total.
After
Keysor, the Golden Eagles would call upon Antwan Brown (Santa Fe CC).
Brown would carry on the dominance of the Golden Eagles bullpen
Saturday night as he finished the game, pitching the final inning and
a third. While on the mound, Brown would strike out three of the four
batters faced, retiring the side in the ninth to solidify the eight to
three win for Glens Falls.
With
a solid appearance from Sante Fe Community College’s Antwan Brown,
the bullpen for Glens Falls would have contributed for nine innings of
work, racking up sixteen strikeouts on the night, while only allowing
two free passes and a hit by pitch
On
the offensive, the top of their order would aid the Golden Eagles
mightily. In fact, batters P.J Leto (Lurleen B. Wallace CC), Ricky
Claudio (St. Thomas), Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern), Mike Kindel (Kansas
State), Josh Anderson (Yavapai), and David Olson (Tacoma CC). In fact,
the group would compile seven hits and six runs scored on the night.
Yavapai’s freshman, Josh Anderson would contribute three hits of his
own, two of them being home runs in the second and fourth inning. A
homerun would also come from Claudio in the first inning.
The
final score of the game was eight to three in favor of your Golden
Eagles. Receiving the win was Pete Noordsy who improves to 4-0. Mohawk
Valley starter Willie Gabay would receive the loss and fall to 2-3.
The
Golden Eagles will continue their season tomorrow night in Amsterdam,
as they will play the biggest game in league history, in the final
Sunday night game of the season for the Golden Eagles. They will
battle the Amsterdam Mohawks, who they now lead by a half a game in
the Eastern Conference of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
