Falls, NY – With a PGCBL playoff spot clinched for the Glens Falls
Golden Eagles, it’s time to take a look at how some green and gold
alumni are performing in professional baseball. This last article of a
three part series will center on the former Golden Eagles playing
Independent baseball. The previous two articles focused can be read

- Dan DeGeorge (2007) – IF – Somerset Patriots
Drafted
into the Cleveland Indians minor league system, DeGeorge played
well within the organization reaching as high as the Double A
level. During his time within the Indians system, DeGeorge
compiled 64 hits, 26 RBI, and eight stolen bases over 99 career
games. A graduate of Princeton University, DeGeorge received All
Ivy League Honorable Mentions honors in his freshman year. This
season, the Annandale, NJ native is batting .273 with 18 hits
and two stolen bases for the Patriots.

- Will Hassett (2006 & 2008) – RHP – Rockland
Boulders
A
local Siena College graduate and North Bellmore, NY native,
Hassett currently plays for the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am
League. As a Siena Saint, Hassett was named to the MAAC
All-Academic Team while also serving as a key pitcher in the
Saints’ rotation and playoff runs. This summer, Hasset has
earned a 3.74 ERA while striking out 27 batters for the NYSL
Federals before his contract was purchased by the Boulders
earlier this month.

- Jim McNamara (2010) – LHP – NYSL Federals
A
2010 Golden Eagle, McNamara played collegiately for Anna Maria
College. Excelling as an Amcat, McNamara is the school’s
all-time leader in wins at 20 while leading the program to its
first-ever ECAC Championship Tournament Title this spring. The
Worcester, MA native also ranks second in all-time hits and RBI
for the Amcats. In 8.2 innings for the Federals so far in his
professional career, McNamara has struck out three batters.

#13 - Ryan Basham (2004) –
OF – Windy City Thunderbolts
Drafted
by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 29th round of the
2006 MLB draft, Basham played collegiately for the Michigan
State Spartans. With the Spartans, Basham earned Third-Team
All-Big Ten honors batting .358 with eight homeruns while
posting an outstanding .450 OBP in 2005. With the Golden Eagles
in 2004, the Lowell, IN native batted .320 with 44 hits. Named
the Rookie of the Year for the Frontier League in 2007, Basham
has 37 hits and 24 walks this season for the Thunderbolts.

- Ken Gregory (2007) – OF – Southern Illinois Miners
Drafted
in the 26th round of the 2006 MLB draft by the Texas
Rangers, Gregory just signed with the Southern Illinois Miners
independent baseball team this June. Playing collegiately at
Kean University, Gregory graduated this spring while leading the
Kean team in numerous offensive categories batting
.399/.459/.690 with 11 homeruns and 54 RBI. This summer, the New
Jersey native is batting .317 with 39 hits and nine doubles in
36 games played.

Scott Lawson (2008) – IF – Washington Wild Things
Playing
for the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League, Lawson
was selected to represent the Wild Things in the Frontier
League’s All-Star game. Lawson, drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays
in 2010, is one of the team’s primary offensive contributors
batting .308/.417/.464 with seven homeruns and 25 RBI. At the
University of Miami, the Grapevine, TX native batted
.307/.435/.528 with nine homeruns in his 2010 senior season.
Lawson also participated in the homerun derby at this summer’s
All-Star game.

- Nick Valdez (2005) – C – Edmonton Capitals
The
Tucson, AZ native began his professional career with the Road
Warriors of the Atlantic League before joining the Casper Ghosts
and playing within the Colorado Rockies minor league system in
2008 and 2009. Valdez joined the Capitals in 2010 following his
two-year stay within the Colorado system. This season, Valdez is
batting .296 with 40 hits and 10 doubles in 44 games for
Edmonton which plays in the North American Baseball League.

Tommy Meagher (2007) – RHP – Alpine Cowboys
A
graduate of the University of Tampa, Meagher played for the
Golden Eagles in the summer of 2007 excelling with a 5-0 record
and a 1.47 ERA (the third best in team history). As a Tampa
Spartan, the Louisiana native pitched well in 2010 compiling a
6-1 record with a 2.43 ERA and 50 strikeouts in just 37 innings.
Signed by the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League this June,
Meagher is currently 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts over
21 innings. The business management major has also recorded a
save this summer.
