PGCBL Playoffs to Feature the Nationally Ranked Golden Eagles

Glens Falls Golden Eagles

July 28, 2011

Glens Falls, NY – Wednesday was a day of good news for fans of the Glens Falls Golden Eagles as the team remained ranked nationally at #33 while clinching a playoff spot in the Eastern Division of the PGCBL by sweeping a doubleheader vs. the Cooperstown Hawkeyes 6-2 and 4-2.

Highlights from this past week for the nationally ranked green and gold included a road 6-4 win over Watertown to open the rankings week at 22-11 which culminated a three game sweep of the Wizards. Friday’s first game of a doubleheader vs. Albany featured a comeback 4-3 win in the seventh inning as Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) drove in the winning run. Ending a three game skid Tuesday evening on The Post-Star Night, Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Kansas State) earned his second win of the season allowing only two hit and one run while striking out six batters over five innings. Earning his eighth save of the season was Ruchim tying a team record set by Marc Damon in 2008.

Entering the new week trailing the Amsterdam Mohawks in the standings after Amsterdam clinched the first PGCBL playoff berth, the Golden Eagles traveled to the hallowed grounds of Doubleday field to face Cooperstown in a doubleheader. Winning both games behind excellent starting pitching from Derek Mazzio (St. Louis) and Brennan Perry (Southern Maine), Glens Falls officially stamped its PGCBL playoff tickets.

Ranked nationally at #33, the Golden Eagles currently trail the #22 Mohawks in the standings by a single game with seven games remaining in the regular season for Glens Falls. With a 4-2 advantage in the season series, the Golden Eagles will look to take the final two games of the series this Sunday and Tuesday. Both games will take place on the road at Amsterdam’s Shuttleworth Park.

In its first season of existence, the PGCBL playoffs will involve two teams from each division with a best-of-three series for each division before the series winners face off in another best-of-three series to crown the league champion.

Friday, Glens Falls will host Albany for ColorTyme Night at East Field. The game will feature a computer giveaway and free tickets are available ColorTyme’s Queensbury location.
