Four Run Sixth Too Much for Golden Eagles to Rebound Against Mohawk Valley

Matt Arietta

Glens Falls Golden Eagles

July 24, 2011

Little Falls, NY - Your Glens Falls Golden Eagles faced off against the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs tonight as they went out to try and reverse their current slide into second place in the Eastern Division.

Antwan Brown (Sante Fe CC) got the start tonight on the mound to face a Mohawk Valley batting order, which featured Cullen Wacker, 2011 PGCBL Home Run Derby champion. Brown went four and a third allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He also walked two and struck out six of the twenty-four batters he faced. In relief of Brown was Wofford Junior, Peter Noordsy and Skidmore College lefty Jordan Keysor.

The Golden Eagles’ bats were not much help for the Golden Eagles pitching in this one. Offensive production only occurred in the fourth inning when Laureen B. Wallace CC’s P.J Leto led off the inning with a single. Northwestern’s Kyle Ruchim would then follow with a single of his own to move Leto to third. Josh Anderson (Yavapai) stepped into the batter’s box next and he followed suit, hitting a single and driving in Leto for the Golden Eagles’ first run. Next to bat was David Olson (Tacoma CC) who hit into a fielder’s choice which would retire Josh Anderson at second base, meanwhile giving Kyle Ruchim enough time to score Glens Falls’ second run on the evening. The last run came on the last at bat of the fourth when Kevin Alexander (Dallas Baptist) had an RBI single scoring David Olson, while Kansas State’s Mike Kindel would be thrown out at the plate on the unconditional 9-2-4-2 (Right fielder to catcher to second basemen to catcher).

The final score in this one would be Mohawk Valley 8, Glens Falls 3. The Golden Eagles fall to 23-15 (12-7) on the season while the Diamond Dawgs improve to 12-26 (6-11) on the year. Tyler Kane (Washington) would end up receiving the win for Mohawk Valley as Golden Eagles starter Antwan Brown would receive the loss falling on the year to 0-2.

The season continues Tuesday, as the Golden Eagles get their last off day of the season tomorrow, and then head to East Field to start a two game, two night home stand in Glens Falls. Tuesday night is Post Star Night as the Golden Eagles take on Western Division’s Elmira Pioneers. The game will start at 7pm and there will be free foam fingers given to the first 250 children through the gate. Hope to see everyone at East Field.
