WATERTOWN, NY -
In there return to the diamond after the all-star game last night in
Elmira, your Golden Eagles faced off yesterday against Western
Division foe, the Watertown Wizards. Due to a rain out earlier in the
season the boys of summer would need to play three games in two days
(7/19, 7/20) and two seven inning affairs on Tuesday July 19th.
On the mound in
game one would be Kayvon Bahramzedeh, a senior in 2011 who was a mid
season addition from Kansas State University. The right-hander was
solid in the shortened game pitching all seven innings. Along the way,
Kayvon allowed one run (earned) on eight hits, walking none and
striking out five of the twenty-six batters he faced.
Kayvon’s offense
were able to help him pitch with a lead the entire game. A couple of
walks by Watertown’s starter Anthony Buonopane as well as an error
by shortstop Angel Rosa, helped the Golden Eagles jump out to a 2-1
lead early. The offense would add a run in the fifth as leadoff batter
Clayton Brown (Tacoma CC), would triple and later get batted in on a
fielder’s choice by St. Thomas’ outfielder and pitcher Ricky
Claudio. Brown would be involved in the run scored the next inning as
he singled in the sixth to score KJ Alexander (Dallas Baptist) who led
off the sixth with a double.
At the end of the
day the Golden Eagles ended with four runs on eight hits and no
errors. This out did the Watertown Wizards who ended game one with one
run and eight hits, with two errors recorded on defense.
Receiving the win
was Kayvon Bahramzadeh who would move to 1-0 on the season also adding
a complete game to his stat sheet whereas
Anthnoy Buonopane would be left with the lost for Watertown.
The second game of
the double header would also go the Golden Eagles way. On the bump for
the team from Glens Falls would be Brennan Perry (Southern Maine). He
would face off against Watertown’s Rogers. Perry would outdo Rogers
as he went six innings allowing two runs on two hits, walked three and
K’ed ten of the twenty-two batters faced on the evening.
Runs in game two
came in spurts for the offense of Glens Falls. In the second inning
three walks and an error by Rogers would end up scoring three Golden
Eagles, catcher Kevin Alexander (Dallas Baptist), right fielder Cody
Lewis, and third baseman, P.J Leto who played in his debut today. Leto
is an infielder from Laureen B. Wallace Community College. Leto would
go not record a hit in his first two games as a Golden Eagle yet he
would score a run in game two after walking in the second inning of
game two.
Golden Eagles
Clayton Brown and Kyle Ruchim would both score at the top of the
Golden Eagles order in the fifth after Brown would reach on an error,
Kyle Ruchim a double and then Mike Kindel (Kansas St) would drive in
Ruchim after Brown scored on a throwing error by the centerfielder.
If the two
victories, the Golden Eagles would improve to 21-11, and remain in the
top spot of the Eastern Conference of the PGCBL remaining a half of
game above conference foe the Amsterdam Mohawks.
The season
continues tomorrow July 20th, again at the Duffy Dome in
Watertown, NY as the Golden Eagles will play the final nine inning
game of the three game two night series with the Watertown Wizards.
