Elmira, NY -
The East Division squad at the 2011 PGCBL All Star game Monday night
in Elmira, NY was loaded with Golden Eagles. Making the trip to
historic Dunn Field was Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine), Josh Anderson
(Yavapai), Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas), David Olson (Tacoma CC), Dan
Klein (Kansas St.), Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern), Nick Gonzalez (South
Florida), and lastly, Derek Mazzio
(St. Louis).
The events at Dunn
Field began with the homerun derby. In this years contest, there was
eight participants, which included Golden Eagles’ slugger Josh
Anderson (Yavapai). Anderson hit a high, five home runs in the first
round before advancing along with Andrew Deeds (Albany), Justin Lacy
(Elmira), and Cullin Wacker (Mohawk Valley) to round number two.
In round two,
Anderson continued his success at the plate hitting out two homers
which would grant him a place in the finals along side East Division
teammate, Cullin Wacker of Mohawk Valley.
In the final round,
Anderson would fall short to Cullin Wacker as the Mohawk Valley
slugger would need one home run in the finals to win, after
Anderson’s turn at the dish.
Anderson ended the
competition tied with Wacker for the tourney lead with seven total
homers.
With the conclusion
of the home run derby, the All-Star game got on the way, as the East
was aided heavily by your Golden Eagles on both sides of the diamond.
On the mound,
Golden Eagles Derek Mazzio (St. Louis), and David Olson (Tacoma CC)
each pitched an inning. Derek Mazzio gave up two earned runs on two
hits in his inning while facing five batters, while David Olson, who
hit a homerun in his first at bat. On the mound however, struck out
one of the four batters faced while
he was granted the win after the East took the lead in the ninth after
Olson’s half an inning on the mound.
Offensively, the
Golden Eagles Kyle Ruchim, Josh Anderson, David Olson, Daniel Klein,
Ricky Claudio, and Anthony Pisani, combined on the night for a total
of seven hits, which ironically would tie the Golden Eagles with the
West All Stars for hits on the night. Ruchim went 1-2 with a run
scored, Claudio 1-3, whereas Klein and Anderson both recorded two hits
on the day.
After the
twenty-seventh out, the East All-Stars and your Golden Eagles
representatives found themselves on top winning the game seven to
four. The East had seven runs on twelve hits recording an error on the
day. The West finished short with four runs on seven hits and an error
recorded.
