Newark,
NY
- With one game left before your Glens Falls Golden Eagles head
to the All-Star break, they have the second game of the two game set
with the Newark Pilots. For the second night in a row, the boys of
summer headed to Colburn Park to take on the Pilots.
On
the mound for the Golden Eagles was South Florida right hander, Nick
Gonzalez. Gonzalez, went three innings allowing four runs (2 earned),
on six hits. Out of the nineteen batters faced he walked two and
struck out four on the bump this evening.
In
relief of Gonzalez was a collective effort from three Golden Eagles:
Kevin Cowan (Albany), Chris Myers (Georgia Southern), and Neil Fryer
(Siena). The three relievers pitched well in each of their turns on
the night. Cowan went two and two thirds, allowing two hits, three
walks and striking out two of the fourteen batters he faced. Chris
Myers, went two thirds of an inning and gave up two earned runs a walk
and a strike out of the eight batters faced, while Neil Fryer went two
and two thirds, allowing a run and striking out three of the eight
batters he faced. Neil would go on and be rewarded with the win as his
offense would give him the lead in the eighth inning, and he would not
give it up.
On
the offensive, the night was highlighted by two Golden Eagles at the
top of the batting order. Second baseman Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) as
well as Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) combined to go six for ten with
three rbis. The main focus should be their back to back homeruns in
the eighth inning to tie (Ruchim) and go ahead (Claudio) of the Pilots
in the top half of the eighth. Both Golden Eagles who will be playing
in the All Star game on Monday in Elmira, gave Neil Fryer (4-2) the
necessary lead to seal the win in the ninth.
At
the end of the game the Golden Eagles left Newark with eleven runs on
thirteen hits while making two errors on the night while the Pilots
scored ten runs on fourteen hits, making three errors on the night.
The Golden Eagles go into the top spot at 19-11 in the East has they
lead in the tie breaker 4-1 with the Amsterdam Mohawks. The Newark
Pilots fall to 17-14 and remain in the top spot of the Western
Division.
With
the victory and an Amsterdam loss on the night, the Golden Eagles are
back in the top spot of the East going into the break. The season
continues on Tuesday as the boys of summer head to Watertown for a two
game two day set against the Watertown Wizards.
