NEWARK NY¨ Last night your Glens Falls Golden Eagles faced off against
Western Conference foe, the Newark Pilots, at Colburn Park in Newark,
New York. On the mound for your Golden Eagles was Dylan Baker (Tacoma
CC). Baker would not disappoint after giving way to the Golden Eagles
bullpen in the sixth inning. Over his five innings of work, Baker
would give up two runs, both earned on eight hits. He also struck out
two of the twenty-three batters he faced.
In relief of Baker
was a combined effort from Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Kansas St.), Peter
Noordsy (Wofford), and Golden Eagles closer Kyle Ruchim
(Northwestern). The group struck out seven of the twenty Pilot batters
who came to the plate from the sixth inning on. With the Golden Eagles
taking the lead in the ninth inning, pitcher, Peter Noordsy (2-0) was
rewarded with the win, as Kyle Ruchim was rewarded with the save,
after he was helped out by two defensive plays from Cody Lewis (San
Diego) at second. With the save Ruchim earns his sixth on the season.
On
the offensive, the Golden Eagles bats were held silent for the most
part of the game as Pilot’s pitcher Mike Saunders gave his best
stuff for eight innings. The Golden Eagles did
score a run
in the third as Clayton Brown, Golden Eagles center fielder drove in
shortstop Anthony Pisani for the Golden Eagles first run of the night.
In the ninth,
Saunders dug himself into trouble when he walked cleanup hitter David
Olson (Tacoma CC), then a base hit to Zac Hawkins (LSU Eunice) to
place two Golden Eagles on base with one out.
With one out, up
walked Golden Eagles left fielder, Mike Kindel (Kansas St.). On a
2-0 count, Mike Kindel hit a towering home run to right center
to put the Golden Eagles up four to three, a lead they would not
relinquish.
The Golden Eagles
improve to 18-11 on the season with the win. The season continues
tomorrow, Saturday July 16th , as the Golden Eagles will
once again head to Colburn to face the Newark Pilots.
