Glens
Falls, NY – As Glens Falls Golden Eagles Coach John Mayotte walked
into the stadium at East Field Thursday evening, the seasoned skipper
held 199 wins in the green, white, and gold Glens Falls uniform.
Walking off the field after the sun set that same evening (and
drenched from a celebratory water cooler soak); Coach Mayotte had
reached a league milestone 200th win following a 10-0 win
over the visiting Watertown Wizards.
The
Golden Eagles earned Mayotte his 200th victory by
outslugging the Wizards with ten runs on ten hits as PGCBL All Star
selection Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) hit two line drive homeruns to
lead the team to victory. Starting pitcher Max MacNabb (San Diego)
went five scoreless innings and struck out eight Wizard batters to
subdue the Watertown bats which had scored ten runs the night before
leading to the combined shutout for Glens Falls pitchers.
As
newly acquired pitcher Jordan Keysor (Skidmore) closed out the ninth
with a fly to right, the Golden Eagles players jubilantly took to the
field cheering on their manager who was quickly mobbed by the team.
With his attention turned towards his players, he was unexpectedly
doused with a cooler full of ice water in the traditional celebration
to cap what was a special evening.
Before
his time with the Golden Eagles, Coach Mayotte spent 13 years at
Eckerd College (DII), 12 years at Troy State (DI for 10 years), and
five years with the Chatham A’s of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Ranking 18th in the NCAA DII record book with 821 DII
victories, Coach Mayotte, a Castleton State College alumnus, has had
success throughout his career at all levels including his time with
Glens Falls.
Over
his eight season career with the Golden Eagles, Coach Mayotte has
amassed 200 wins at an impressive .625 winning percentage. (200 wins,
120 losses). Under his guidance, Glens Falls has won the division
three times while reaching the playoffs in five of the past seven
seasons including a playoff berth last summer.
This
season, Coach Mayotte’s Golden Eagles (17-11) have been in sole
possession of the Eastern Division of the Perfect Game Collegiate
Baseball League for the majority of the summer while being ranked
nationally for the first month plus of the season by Perfect Game USA
and ranking as high as number 12. Benefiting from Coach Mayotte’s
tutelage and contributing to the team’s success, eight Glens Falls
ballplayers were recently named to the league All Star roster.
With
just under three weeks remaining in the PGCBL season, the Golden
Eagles are well-positioned to make the playoffs and will have a chance
to win the team’s first ever league championship. With a 200 win
field manager in Coach Mayotte, the team’s future is looking quite
bright as it did tonight in Glens Falls’ 10-0 victory.
