LITTLE FALLS,
NY- The season has turned it’s page to July, and after the first
month of the season has left your Glens Fall Golden Eagles in first
place of the Eastern Conference of the inaugural season of the PGCBL
The team also ends June nationally ranked amongst the best collegiate
summer teams in the country.
The first,
showed to be a good trend stopper as the Golden Eagles came back to
life this evening in Little Falls, New York versus the Mohawk Valley
DiamondDawgs. Starting
pitcher Derek Mazzio (St. Louis) was magnificent over his six innings
of work. Tonight on the bump, ‘Mazzio scattered six hits giving up a
run yet suffering two earned on the night. Derek walked none and
struck out seven total of the twenty-four batters faced. Lastly, it
took the DiamondDawgs fifteen batters to reach base as Mohawk Valley
three hitter, Dave Soltis from Bryant University, broke up Derek
Mazzio’s perfect game in the fourth inning with two outs. Mazzio
went on to earn his second victory of the season improving his record
to 2-0 in four starts.
In relief of
Mazzio, Golden Eagles, Kevin Cowan (Albany), Peter Noordsy (Wofford),
and David Olson (Tacoma CC), combined for two innings of work striking
out four collectively, before giving way to Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern)
who came on in the ninth to face five batters, striking out two and
recording his fourth save on the season.
For the
offense, the Golden Eagles relied heavily on their power this evening,
as three Golden Eagles hit homeruns, which would make up for three of
the four runs scored in the contest. Golden Eagles three batter, Josh
Anderson (Yavapai) went deep in Golden Eagles half of the first. The
homer would end up being one of his two hits on the night. Anderson
ended with one RBI as well. Second Golden Eagle to go deep was in the
next inning as Kansas State outfielder Mike Kindel, hit his first
homer on the young season. Lastly, David Olson was the third batter to
leave the yard out of the fifth spot of the Glens Falls order in the
fourth inning for the Golden Eagles. Receiving the loss for the Mohawk
Valley DiamondDawgs was Stanton who went the distance for Mohawk
Valley, giving up seven hits and four runs, Dustin three of which were
earned to cross the dish.
At the end of
nine at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls, your Glens Falls
Golden Eagles improve to 12-6, and remain in first place of the
Eastern Division in the Perfect Game College Baseball League. The
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs fall to 6-8.The season continues
tomorrow for the Golden Eagles as they will once again hit the road to
take on Albany, at the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York.
