Glens
Falls, NY – After being ranked as the 16th best summer
collegiate baseball team in the nation to begin the season last week,
the Glens Falls Golden Eagles have moved up four spots to earn the
number 12 ranking in the Perfect Game USA weekly Top 25 Rankings after
yet another strong week.
Beginning
the week at 7-2, the Golden Eagles played well sweeping a doubleheader
at Amsterdam (6-2 & 4-1) and defeating Mohawk Valley at home to
bring the team’s win total to ten. At home facing Mohawk Valley on
Sunday, the DiamondDawgs took the Golden Eagles into the extra-innings
until Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) hit a walk-off bases-loaded
single to win the game 5-4. Monday, the Newark Pilots handed Glens
Falls its first loss since June 19th in a heartbreaking
loss with the go-ahead runs scored by the Pilots in the top of the
ninth. Nevertheless, the Golden Eagles ended the week with an
excellent 10-3 record in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL).
Adding to
what was a highly successful week for the Golden Eagles, starting
pitcher Derek Mazzio (St. Louis) earned the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week
honor marking the second straight week Glens Falls has received the
award. Pitchers Nick Gonzalez (Southern Florida) and Neil Fryer
(Siena) shared the award in week one.
Glens
Falls will look to maintain its national ranking on the road this week
with games at Elmira, Mohawk Valley, and Albany. The team will host
Watertown at East Field on Thursday for Chase Sports Night and will
host an exhibition doubleheader to end the week on Independence Day
vs. the Suffern Blue Devils of the Westchester/Rockland Wood Bat
League.
