Elmira, NY- Tuesday
night’s PGCBL matchup at historic Dunn Field in Elmira, NY showcased
two first place teams in their respected conferences. Representing the
east, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles rolled into town coming off of
their loss against Newark on Monday (6/27) at East Field. As seen in
the first matchup between these two talented teams, the game was
intense as both clubs displayed their talents, yet a similar result as
their June 14th game was seen in the end.
Starting for your Golden
Eagles in last night’s matchup was Freshman pitcher Max MacNabb (San
Diego) (1-2). The starter for Elmira was Cornell sophomore, Mike
Kazley. MacNabb, faced eighteen batters over his three and a third on
the bump. He only gave up two runs (both earned), walked three, and
struck out five. Coming in to relieve MacNabb was Southern Maine
hurler, Brennan Perry (2-0). Perry was great K’ing three of the
seven batters faced in his inning and two thirds in relief. Brennan
would eventually receive the win, but he was still not the only
pitcher with a keen performance on the night. Both Chris Myers, a
sophomore pitcher from Georgia Southern (1-0) who went three innings
of three hit ball K’ing four, and Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) also
pitched excellent recording the three strikeouts necessary to lock up
his third save of the 2011 season.
On the offensive, the Golden
Eagles kept their red hot lumber in motion throughout the game racking
up, once again double digit hits on the night (12). The offense was
highlighted by a trio of Golden Eagles. St. Thomas outfielder/pitcher
Ricky Claudio went two for four with a stolen base and two runs
scored. LSU-Eunice freshman Zac Hawkins also had two hits (2 for 4),
and Albany first basemen Mike Tirri went two-for- three with a single
and a double.
The majority of the Golden
Eagles runs came in the third inning when third basemen, Yavapai
freshman, Josh Anderson took Kazley’s two- one offering over the
fence for a three run shot.
The season continues later
on today, Wednesday June 29th, as the Golden Eagles will
wrap up their two game, two day series at the Elmira Pioneers.
