Glens
Falls, NY – On a warm summer night at East Field, Newark scored
three runs in the ninth inning to overcome a Glens Falls 6-4 lead to
earn the Pilot’s fifth victory of the season while giving the Golden
Eagles their first loss at home on the season.
Newark
took an early lead to begin the game in the first as Kyle Attl
grounded out scoring Mike Bolling who reached on a walk off Golden
Eagles starter Dylan Baker.
The
Golden Eagles would respond in the second as Kevin Alexander (Dallas
Baptist) hit a two-run homerun off Pilot starter Edwin Reyes (UAB)
giving Glens Falls a 2-1 lead.
Newark
would then score three runs over the fourth and fifth innings with
RBIs from Randy Villa (San Joaquin Delta) (2) and Adam Grace (Genesee
CC).
Entering
the seventh inning, Newark held a 4-2 lead until Glens Falls erupted
for four runs in the seventh. Ricky Claudio and Josh Anderson reached
on walks while David Olson was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Glens Falls. A passed ball from Pilot pitcher Alec Clifton (Lindenwood)
cut the lead to 4-3. Zac Hawkins then proceeded to hit a two RBI
double to give the Golden Eagles the lead at 5-4. Glens Falls scored
its final run of the evening on a run-scoring single from Kyle Ruchim
(Northwestern).
Winning
the game in the top of the ninth, Newark got things going with one out
when leadoff batter Michael Bolling (Lewis) hit a single, which was
quickly followed by Delvalle’s (Kentucky Western) moved him to third
with a triple. A walk to Attl (Cal State Northridge) loaded the bases
and Randy Villa (San Joaquin Delta) hit a single and would later score
on a single from Luke Swenson (UC Santa Barbara) to take the lead 7-6.
Pilot’s
pitcher, Kegan Banks (Blinn) a sophomore, came on to pitch the ninth
inning with a one run lead. Other than a hit by pitch from the eighth
hitter Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern), nothing got started for the Golden
Eagles in the bottom of the ninth.
The game concluded after 3 hours of baseball. The winning pitcher is
Kegan Banks from Blinn, who moves to 1-0 on the season. Ricky Claudio
(St. Thomas) receives the loss and moves to 0-1 on the year, due to
his blown save. The Eagles fall to 10-3 on the year while the Newark
Pilots improve to 6-6 tonight at East Field, in Glens Falls, NY.
