Glens
Falls, NY – In front of the 1,132 in attendance, Anthony Pisani’s
(Southern Maine) walk-off, bases loaded hit in the 10th
inning led Glens Falls to a 5-4 victory over the Mohawk Valley
DiamondDawgs on Sunday night. The Golden Eagles are now 7-0 on the
season at East Field and are 2-1 against Mohawk Valley.
Golden Eagles reliever Brennan Perry (Southern Maine) picked up his
first win of the season pitching a scoreless tenth inning while
DiamondDawgs reliever Dustin Stanton (Southern Maine) went two and 2/3
getting the loss.
Clayton Brown (Tacoma C.C) led off the tenth with a double to right
field. Zac Hawkins reached on an error and then Mike Kendel (Kansas
State) was intentionally walked to load the bases. Kyle Ruchim
(Northwestern) fouled out and Dan Klein (Kansas State) grounded into a
fielder’s choice. Then with two outs and a 2-2 count, Glens Falls
shortstop Pisani drove Stanton’s pitch to center field giving the
Golden Eagles their first extra inning win of the year.
Golden Eagles’ starter Derek Mazzio (St.Louis) and DiamondDawgs’
starter Selby Brummett (Paradise Valley C.C) went five innings each
and got a no decision. Mazzio gave up six hits and struck out eight
while Brummett allowed four hits and struck out five.
Mohawk Valley grabbed a 1-0 lead on the Michael Gunn (Christian
Brothers H.S.) solo home run to right field in the top of the fourth
inning. It was Gunn’s first home run of the season.
The Golden Eagles stormed back in the
bottom half of the inning. David Olsen (Tacoma C.C) led off with a
single and then scored on Hawkins’ RBI double tying the game at 1-1.
Then with one out, Ruchim (Northwestern) doubled Hawkins home to give
the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. With both hits, Ruchim and Hawkins upped
their season RBI totals to five.
DiamondDawgs catcher Jake Saylor
(Cincinnati) scored on Hassan Evan’s suicide squeeze to tie the game
at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning. However, Glens Falls took a 4-2
lead in the bottom of the inning as Josh Anderson (Yavapai) and David
Olsen each reached on an error and later scored.
The Golden Eagles held a two-run lead into the ninth inning but Mohawk
Valley catcher Jake Saylor got a two-out, two-RBI single to score
Taylor Townsend (Kentucky) and Cullen Wacker (Auburn). Saylor’s
third hit of the night tied the score at 4-4.
The game remained tied until Pisani’s tenth inning heroics.
Glens Falls (10-2) is back in action on Monday night against the
Newark Pilots. Game time is 7 pm at East Field on CSEA Night. This
will be the first ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and Pilots on
the season.
Mohawk Valley (5-4) travels to Elmira to take on the Pioneers Monday
night at Dunn Field.
