AMSTERDAM, NY- Your
Glens Falls Golden Eagles traveled to Amsterdam, NY yesterday to play
a double header against the Amsterdam Mohawks. The reason for the two
seven-innings contests was because of the rained out contest the
Golden Eagles were suppose to play back on Saturday June 11th,
in Amsterdam.
The success that Glens Falls has found against Amsterdam earlier in
the year, winning their last two games against the Mohawks followed
suit yesterday at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, New York.
In the first game, Golden Eagles ace, Nick Gonzalez continued his hot
start by posting five innings of one run baseball, receiving the
victory and improving to 1-0 on the season. Nick also struck out six
of the twenty-two batters he faced on the day.
On the offensive, the Golden Eagles bats continued to give the defense
support. The offense was lead by Freshman, Zac Hawkins (LSU-Eunice)
who went 1 for 3 with an run batted in, and two runs scored, Mike
Tirri, junior first basemen, (Albany) 2 for 4 with a run scored, and
shortstop Anthony Pisani who went 2 for 3 with two runs batted and two
stolen bases out of the nine hole for the Golden Eagles.
The game was closed out in a combined effort between Freshman, Kevin
Cowan (Albany) and Freshman, Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern). Cowan and
Ruchim both went an inning in relief of Gonzalez, facing five batters
apiece. Cowan recorded one strike out on the day whereas Ruchim
recorded two in the seventh, ending the game and solidifying the
Golden Eagles 6-2 victory in game one of the double header.
Game two showcased more success for the Golden Eagles. The starter for
the second game was freshman Neil Fryer (Siena). Fryer continued his
excellent season as he went five and a third allowing four hits, one
run, one walk, and striking out seven of the twenty-two batters he
faced. Glens Falls native, junior, Peter Noordsy (Wofford) finished
the game for Fryer while recording his first save of the year after
pitching one and two-thirds of an inning, striking out three of the
five batters he faced.
The first five batters of the Golden Eagles order, which included,
freshman John Rooney (Siena), sophomore Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas),
freshman Josh Anderson (Yavapai), sophomore David Olson (Tacoma CC),
and freshman Zac Hawkins (LSU-Eunice) highlighted the offense in game
two. The group of the Golden Eagles went a combined five for sixteen,
scoring all four runs recorded by the Golden Eagles in game two, and
posting three rbis, two by third basemen Josh Anderson.
The season continues for the Golden Eagles as
they travel to Albany, Saturday, June 25th, for their
Eastern Conference matchup against the Albany Dutchmen. The game will
take place in Albany at the College of Saint Rose starting at 7:05 pm.
