Seth DeWitt

Glens Falls Golden Eagles

June 18, 2011

The Golden Eagles compiled eleven hits as Glens Falls defeated the Amsterdam Mohawks 6-2 at East Field on Saturday night. Neil Fryer (Siena) picked up his second win of the season going six strong innings while Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) and Dan Klein (Kansas State) each had two RBI’s.

The Golden Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season at home in front of the 929 in attendance.

In the second inning, David Olsen (Tacoma C.C) started the four-run inning with a one-out single. Mike Tirri (UAlbany) followed with a single to left and then Ruchim doubled Olsen home to give Glens Falls a 1-0 lead. Dan Klein gave the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead on a two-RBI double. John Rooney (Siena) extended the lead to 4-0 on a single up the middle.

The Golden Eagles ran into some trouble in the top of the seventh inning. Parker Morin started the inning with a leadoff single and then Kody Ortman followed with a single. Kevin Cowan (UAlbany) came in for Fryer in relief. Cowan surrendered an RBI-double to Jude Vidrine (Lamar) to cut the Glens Falls lead to 4-1 and then allowed an RBI groundout to Matt Mack (Radford). Cowan got out of the jam by picking off pinch runner Jack Fischer and striking out DeMarcus Henderson to end the top half of the inning.

Glens Falls extended their lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth as Kyle Ruchim drove in Zac Hawkins on a double to left center. Ruchim would later score on a wild pitch with two outs to reclaim the Golden Eagles’ four-run lead.

Ruchim moved in from center field to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the Golden Eagles to preserve the victory.

Glens Falls travels to Albany to take on the Dutchmen on Sunday night at Bellizzi Stadium. The Golden Eagles return home on Tuesday night to take on the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at 7 pm for Glens Falls Hospital Night at East Field.
