The
Golden Eagles extended their win streak to five games as Roger Bernal
(UTPA) delivered a walkoff hit in the bottom of the tenth with one out
to give Glens Falls the 3-2 victory over the Albany Dutchmen. It was
the first extra inning game in PGCBL history.
Kyle
Ruchim (Northwestern) struck out the side in the top of the tenth
inning to pick up his first win of the season.
With
one out in the tenth inning, Mike Tirri (UAlbany) beat out an infield
single. Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) and John Rooney (Siena) then
walked. On a 2-1 count, Roger Bernal drove home the winning run as he
sent one between third basemen, Tyler Drake and shortstop, Anthony
Turgeon, to improve the Golden Eagles to 4-0 at East Field on the
season.
The
Dutchmen took an early 2-0 lead but Josh Anderson cut the Albany lead
to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth on his first home run of the
season.
The
Golden Eagles would tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth as
catcher, Jack Graham, scored on the RBI single by John Rooney (Siena).
The
game would remain tied until Bernal’s late inning heroics.
Starter
Nick Gonzalez (South Florida) pitched five innings for the Golden
Eagles giving up two runs on three hits and striking out four while
the Glens Falls bullpen pitched five scoreless innings (Dylan Baker,
Pete Noordsy and Kyle Ruchim).
The
Golden Eagles return home on Saturday night against the Amsterdam
Mohawks at 7 p.m. It is Graduation Night and Upstate NY Autism Night
at East Field. All graduating high school students can bring their ID
and get into the game for FREE while Upstate NY Autism will be on hand
to raise awareness
for those with autism in our community.
