Abner's Place Welcoming to Golden Eagles in Win

Glens Falls Golden Eagles

June 15, 2011

Matt Arietta

Cooperstown, NY - Wednesday evening your Golden Eagles traveled to Cooperstown, NY where they faced off in a PGCBL contest between the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at the historic Doubleday Field. Getting the start for the Golden Eagles was St. Louis sophomore, Derek Mazzio, and he did not disappoint over his four and two thirds of work. Out of the twenty batters faced, Derek fanned seven, allowed one run on six hit, leaving with the lead in the fifth inning with a score of four to nothing in his favor.

Golden Eagles offense was it usual self as well in today’s game. The offensive notables were Josh Anderson (Yavapai) 3-4 with 3 hits and three rbis. Zac Hawkins (LSU- Eunice) also had a great day at the dish. Along with scoring a run, Hawkins hit the first home run of the season for the Golden Eagles coming in the beginning of the fourth inning. Its hard to point out personal bests in a game where the first seven batters of the Golden Eagles lineup scored runs.

At the end of the day, Glens Falls native Peter Noordsy (Wofford) was rewarded with the Win after he came in to pitch in relief of Chris Myers (Georgia Southern Univ.) in the seventh with a score of 4-3 in the favor of the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing with one out in the seventh, when Glens Falls native, Peter Noordsy (Wofford) entered the game. Peter did not disappoint in his two thirds of an inning recording a strike out. Noordsy’s clutch outing ended up turning the tide of the game for the Golden Eagles as the team put up three runs in the eighth.

Yet another notable moment in the game was how it ended. David Olson (Tacoma C.C) came on to pitch in the ninth. Olson faced the minimum after giving up a leadoff hit. He got Hawkeye first baseman Connor Lewis to ground into the (4-6-3) double play, started by second basemen Roger Bernal (UTPA), following by another groundout to Bernal to end the game.

The Eagles stretch their winning streak to four straight games. The season will continue at home at East Field Stadium on Friday (6/17) when your Golden Eagles will face off against the Albany Dutchmen at 7 pm. Come out to support your first place Glens Falls Golden Eagles!
