The Glens Falls
Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 at East Field this season after
defeating the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 4-1 on Sunday night. Neil
Fryer (Siena) pitched five scoreless innings giving up three hits and
striking out eight. Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine), Ricky Claudio (St.Thomas)
and Josh Anderson (Yavapai) each had run scoring hits.
On a rain-soaked
day in Glens Falls, the Golden Eagles hosted all YMCA members. Liz
Hinck, the Marketing and Communications Director and Zach Mazza, the
Family and Camp Program Director for the “Y” threw out the first
pitch.
After a two out hit
by Ricky Claudio (St.Thomas) in the first inning, Josh Anderson sent
one to right field where DiamondDawgs right fielder DJ Hoagabon lost
the ball in the lights allowing the Golden Eagles to take a 1-0 lead.
The game would
remain 1-0 until the fifth inning when Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern)
singled with one out. After Dan Klein (Kansas State) grounded into a
fielder’s choice, shortstop Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) hit an
RBI double into left field extending the Golden Eagles lead to 2-0.
Roger Bernal (Texas Pan American) made it 3-0 scoring Pisani.
After Neil Fryer
pitched five scoreless innings, Glens Falls native Peter Noordsy (Wofford)
came on to start the sixth inning. DiamondDawgs second basemen Mile
Fasola got on with a leadoff walk. Taylor Townsend then singled and
Cullen Wacker reached on a hit by pitch.
Golden Eagles reliever Kevin Cowan (UAlbany) came on in a bases
loaded jam allowing one run to score on the RBI walk to Nic Spence.
Glens Falls
extended their lead to 4-1 in the eighth inning on an RBI double by
Josh Anderson (Yavapai) scoring Roger Bernal.
David Olsen (Tacoma
C.C) came on in the ninth and walked two but picked up his first save
of the season.
With the win, Glens
Falls (2-1) is tied for first place in the East with Mohawk Valley
(2-1).
After a day off on
Monday, the Golden Eagles return home on Tuesday night to take on the
Elmira Pioneers at 7 p.m. Following the game, there will be fireworks.
