GLENS FALLS—Riding a nine-game home win-streak, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles headed home to East Field after a 10-game road-trip, which witnessed Glens Falls drop 2-of-4, returned home Friday to a friendly crowd willing to cheer on the Golden Eagles toward their second straight home doubleheader sweep and their third overall.
After shutting the Diamonddawgs down from the mound, for two-innings of no-hit, no-run baseball and four-innings of three-hits ball, freshman right-handed pitcher Andrew Brown (Akron) now boosts a perfect 3-0 win-loss record in his last three starts. In addition to two other appearances this season, Brown has tossed over 20 innings and 20 strikeouts. In his six innings-pitched in game two, Brown allowed only three hits and one run with seven strikeouts.
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles scored two runs in each of the second, third, and fifth innings, totaling nine hits with zero fielding errors and defeating the Mohawk Valley Diamonddawgs 6-1 in seven innings.
Freshman infielder Eric Phillips (Georgia Southern) scored half of the teams' six run and added two hits. Phillips has now drove home 14 RBI and scored 14 runs this summer
A clutch two-run double from freshman infielder Kevin Berry (New Orleans) platted both Phillips and sophomore Sean Lamont (Georgetown), who both advanced on a Diamonddawgs pitchers' balk. Sophomore third baseman Chris Lashmet (Northwestern, who played great defensively in both games, also scored on the Berry double, his third this season.
Berry knocked in four RBI in game two, leading the Golden Eagles charge, adding a sacrifice grounder in the second for the teams' first run and a scoring the teams' last run on a Conner Gandossy (St. Louis) single, his seven base hit in 13 starts at catcher.
Sophomore infielder Nick Judkins (Iowa Central) added two hits, including the eventual game-winning RBI single in the second, which put Glens Falls on top for good/
Mohawk Valley scored one run in the fifth, on a leadoff single followed by a couple wild pitches and a hit-by-pitch.
Junior outfielder Anthony Giansanti (Siena) and freshman leadoff hitter and outfielder Steve Zavala (Rutgers) each singled Zavala and Phillips each added a stole base.
The Golden Eagles host the second-place Amsterdam Mohawks for a 7 p.m. start. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive one free magnet, pen, and cup, with each cup being given a free refill.
Both teams play again on Sunday at 4 p.m. before resting on Monday as the New York Collegiate Baseball League rests for the All-Star Break. The NYCBL and the Glens Falls Golden Eagles will announce their 2009 All-Stars on Sunday.
