The Glens Falls Golden Eagles split a pair of games over the
weekend, losing a 9-8 heartbreaker to Watertown in 12 innings on
Saturday before coming back to defeat Albany 8-4 in 10 innings on
Sunday.
The split gave Glens Falls a 7-3 record, one-half game ahead of
Watertown for first place in the East Division of the New York
Collegiate Baseball League entering Monday. Watertown was scheduled
to play a doubleheader against Saratoga on Monday.
Against Watertown, Glens Falls scored four runs in the top of the
first, but Watertown responded with a six-run fifth inning to take
an 8-4 lead before the Eagles tied it at 8-all in the eighth.
In the 12th, the Wizards got runners on first and third with two
outs. Glens Falls pitcher Kellen Candau tried a pick-off attempt at
first, but threw the ball away, allowing the runner from third to
score the game-winner.
Rodarrick Jones and Justin Zumwalde each had two hits and one RBI
for the Eagles, while Eric Phillips also had two hits. Anthony
Giansanti finished with three RBIs.
At Albany on Sunday, Glens Falls took a 4-2 lead, but Albany tied it
in the seventh. In the top of the 10th, Gary DerHagopian blasted a
three-run home run, followed by another run from Nate Valdez. Closer
Alex Frederick earned the win, holding off the Dutchmen by allowing
only one hit over the final two innings.
Glens Falls plays Albany again today, this time hosting the Dutchmen in a 10:30 a.m. game at East Field.
