GLENS FALLS GOLDEN EAGLES BASEBALL

EAGLES NEST NEWS # 4   APRIL 14, 2009

 

ALEX FREDERICK   RHP   CLEMSON UNIVERSITY

Alex pitched two innings in relief vs. the University of Miami in Clemson , SC last weekend (4/11) and he did not allow a base runner while striking out three Hurricanes batters.

 

ANTHONY GIANSANTI   OUTFIELDER/3B/RHP

Anthony has continued his torrid hitting streak in the past two weeks. He has raised his average to .348 (40-for-115) with eight doubles, eight home runs and 19 RBI. He leads the team in stolen bases with ten as well. Anthony was 3-for-6 with two RBI and a triple on 4/11 vs. Niagara , went 2-for-4 vs. Niagara on 4/11 opener with three runs, a double, a triple and a stolen base. On April 5th vs. Saint Peter’s he was 3-for-5 with five runs scored, three RBI, two homers and a double. In game # 2 vs. Saint Peter’s he was 3-for-4 with five runs scored, three RBI, a homer and two stolen bases.

 

CHRIS LASHMET   3B   NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

Chris has been on a tear recently after struggling early in the season. He has raised his average to a team leading .318 (35 for -110) overall and a Big Ten average of .433 (13-for-30). He has raised his average from .213 to .318 during a ten game stretch. In the most recent Big Ten Conference series vs. Minnesota he was 7-for-11 (.637) and in his last ten games is batting at a .525 (20-for-39) clip.

 

SPENSER MAILMAN   2B/SS   MIDLAND COLLEGE (TX)

Another Golden Eagles roster player gaining momentum in the past several weeks. In a recent six game stretch he went 14-for-20 (.700) and in the last ten games he has averaged .576 (19-for-33). He has raised his average from .270 to .331 in the past two weeks. Spenser has made only six errors in 162 chances (.963 fielding %).

 

ERIC PHILLIPS   INFIELDER   GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY

Eric has been batting in the cleanup spot for the Eagles from Statesboro. He shook off a 0-for-12 slump in the final game of a Southern Conference series vs. Western Carolina by going 4-for-6 with two RBI, one run and a stolen base. He had multiple hit games recently vs. Georgia Tech,, College of Charleston twice and has his average at .330 (30-for-91) with four doubles, two homers and 25 RBI.

 

LANCE DURHAM    1B/OF   UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

Most consistent incoming player this spring. Batting .438 (53-for-121)in 31 games with four home runs, seven doubles and 30 RBI. He leads the Bearcats in average, hits, base on balls and on base %. He had multiple hit games in the last two weeks vs. Notre Dame (3), Louisville and Indiana .

 

JUSTIN ZUMWALDE   OUTFIELDER   PIMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE (AZ)

Justin went 7-for-9 in ACCAC play on April 3-4 and raised his average from .333 to .371. He ranks # 16 in the Arizona JC’s in average, tied for 3rd in homers (6). He leads Pima in doubles (12) and is # 2 in RBI (30). Arizona JC’s use wood bats in all games.

 

DANIEL WATTS   LHP   JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY ( AL )

Daniel had his most impressive outing of the spring in a start vs. Southern Illinois on 4/11. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed two hits, one run, walked three and struck out seven Saluki batters. He raised his record to 3-2 with the win. His ERA is at 5.33 through 27 innings, allowing 26 hits and striking out 24 batters

 

RICKY OTT   LHP   UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS

Ricky got his initial start in a crucial Sun Belt Conference contest vs. Western Kentucky . He pitched four innings and allowed four hits, five runs, walked four and struck out two. He had his most impressive outing of the season on 4/7 vs. Mississippi when he threw four innings in relief, allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out five against # 15 Ole Miss.

 

RODARRICK JONES   OUTFIELDER   UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS

Freshman has started in 28 of the 34 games this season and has performed admirably. He is hitting .313 (33-for-106) with five doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI. He leads the team with 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts. In a recent Sun Belt Conference series vs. first place Western Kentucky , he hit two home runs, a double and stole two bases. Ro had a two RBI game vs. Ole Miss on 4/7 and in a three game series vs. Grambling , he was 5-for-13 with seven runs scored, two homers and three RBI. In a midweek contest vs. Nicholls State he was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

 

ZACH KRAHAM   RHP   UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY

The highly touted recruit has returned to 100% health and has been very effective of late. He threw a complete game (seven innings) vs. Maryland Baltimore County on 4/5, allowed only three hits, one run, walked four and struck out six UMBC batters. Zach’s next start was in an America East Conference contest vs. Binghamton on 4/12. He pitched five innings, gave up five hits, six runs, walked three and struck out five to get the loss. He has a 2-2 record in 21 innings, has 22 strikeouts and a 6.00 ERA.

 

JERRY A’HEARN   RHP   CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE

Jerry has a 5-1 record for CAC, ranked # 4 in the NJCAA. On 4/5 he pitched three innings in relief, gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out four. On April 2 he pitched one inning allowed one hit, no runs and struck out two Chandler-Gilbert JC batters. Jerry has a 2.17 ERA in 37+ innings this spring with only nine walks and 40 strikeouts.

 

NATE VALDEZ    1B/3B   CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE

Another resurgent performer who struggled early but is coming on strong. In his last 15 games Nick is hitting .360 (14-for-39) and has batted in eight runs for the Vaqueros.

2009 Golden Eagles Draft Update

Instead of doning an official wear a Golden Eagles uniform, both infielder Jakob Dalfonso (MIddle Georgia) and first basemen Lance Durham (Cincinnati) opted for a contract with a Major League Baseball ballclib. Darin Williams has lined up a big name for his big winter event. Williams, the owner of the Golden Eagles, said Tommy John will be the headliner for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles Hot Stove Banquet on Jan. 24. The event will be at Fort William Henry in Lake George. John was a major-league pitcher for more than 25 years, including stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.
