Golden Eagles Represented Well at All-Star
Game
Glens
Falls, NY – For the second year in a row, the Glens Falls Golden
Eagles will send a franchise-high five representatives to the NYCBL
All-Star Game. The 2008
Eastern Division All-Stars will include, from Glens Falls, Marc Damon
(Pima CC), Shane Davis (Canisius), Kody Johnson (Pima CC), Stefen
Romero (Pima CC) and Chad Stang (Midland).
The All-Star game will be
played at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown, N.Y. at 7:00 p.m. on
Monday, July 7. Home run
derby will start at 4:00 p.m. and both events will be televised by
Time Warner Sports. The
derby and game can be seen on local Time Warner Channel 3.
Marc
Damon was a late addition to the Golden Eagles but has stepped right
into the role of dominating closer.
The Tucson, Ariz. native has pitched nine innings so far,
posting five saves and one win in a three-inning relief appearance.
Damon has struck out 12 and walked seven, but has not allowed a
hit.
Shane
Davis, the Golden Eagles’ opening-day starter, has been the main
supporter of Glens Falls’ league-leading 2.86 team earned run
average. The Belmont, Ont.
native leads the Golden Eagles with five games started and sports a
2-0 record with a 0.28 earned run average.
Davis has struck out 22 and walked only three in 32 innings of
work. Davis is holding
opposing hitters to a meager .194 batting average and tossed a
nine-inning no-hitter against Bennington at East Field on July 11.
Kody
Johnson has split his time between catcher and designated hitter this
season and leads Glens Falls in nearly every offensive statistical
category. The Tucson,
Ariz. native is batting for a team-high .324 average.
Johnson is also tops in homers with four, runs batted in with
11 and doubles with four.
Stefen
Romero has played well everywhere he has been placed for the green and
yellow this year, seeing time in left field, at second base, in the
designated hitter’s spot and now regularly at third base.
Despite a slow start, the Tucson, Ariz. native is batting .246
but reaching base at a team-leading .439 clip thanks to 13 walks and
eight instances of being hit by a pitch.
Romero leads the team in doubles with four, is second in runs
batted in with eight and is a perfect four-for-four in steals.
Chad
Stang is the only Golden Eagle to appear in every contest so far this
summer. Like Romero, the
Surrey, British Columbia native started slow, but has been hot as of
late and is now fifth on the team in batting average.
Stang, an outstanding outfielder, has given opposing pitchers
fits whenever he is on base; swiping a team-high six bags in eight
chances while drawing plenty of pickoff attempts.
The
2007 Eastern Division All-Stars included former Golden Eagles Dan
DeGeorge (Princeton), Barry Keiffer (Midland), Kevin Mahoney (Canisius),
Tommy Meagher (St. Petersburg) and Jake Shaffer (Northern Kentucky).
Other former Golden Eagles to be selected for the mid-season
All-Star Game are current players Will Hassett and Jonathan White
along with Matt McKissick and Mike Arensdorff in 2006, Tony Clausen,
OJ DiChristofano and Shaun McNamara in 2005 and 2004 NYCBL Player of
the Year Terry Blunt in 2004.
