Golden Eagles Take Over Division Lead; Win
Fourth Straight
Glens
Falls, NY - The Glens Falls Golden Eagles beat the Amsterdam
Mohawks by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday. It
is the first win of the year for the Golden Eagles against the
Mohawks—the previous two contests were dropped 1-0 and 8-2.
With the win, Glens Falls improves to 7-3 on the season and
passed the Mohawks and lead the Eastern Division by a half game.
Kody Johnson’s (Pima CC)
two-run homer following a Stefen Romero (Pima CC) walk in the bottom
of the eighth inning gave Glens Falls an 8-7 lead that they would not
relinquish. Marc Damon
(Pima CC) earned his third save in as many days by allowing only a
walk in the ninth inning.
Eric Arnett (Indiana) made
his second start of the season but was denied a decision when Ricky
Anaya (Florida Atlantic) allowed the Mohawks to tie the game at 6-6 in
relief. Arnett lasted five
innings allowing five runs on six hits while striking out two.
All three of Arnett’s appearances have come against the
Mohawks.
After falling behind 1-0 in
the top of the first inning, the Golden Eagles scored when an Evan
McDole (Northern Kentucky) double down the right-field line scored
Luis Feliz (Rutgers).
Despite allowing a three-run
homer in the top of the third, the Golden Eagles struck back with
three more runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by
Nick McCoy (San Diego) and a run-scoring Jon Koscso (South Florida)
single. McCoy and Johnson
each tallied three hits in the game and three and two runs batted in,
respectively.
The Mohawks used three
homeruns in the game to score five of their seven runs.
The second inning was
highlighted by two web gems courtesy of the Golden Eagles—a diving
catch on a line drive by Chad Stang (Midland) and a diving stop into
the hole and a flip to Arnett by McDole.
The Mohawks added a spectacular defensive play in the bottom of
the sixth inning when Dave Giuliani (Stanford) made a sliding catch on
a McCoy bloop with two runners on.
The Golden Eagles are next in
action on Thursday, June 18 as the Watertown Wizards make their first
appearance at East Field at 7 p.m..
