Wagoner Sharp; Golden Eagles Win Third Straight

Glens Falls, NY - The Glens Falls Golden Eagles beat their Northway Rival Saratoga Phillies by a score of 5-4 in an 11 a.m. game at East Field on Tuesday.  It is the second straight win for the Golden Eagles against the Phillies.  With the win, Glens Falls improves to 6-3 on the season.

Jack Wagoner (Sacred Heart) made his second start of the season against the Phillies and lasted six innings.  Wagoner was awarded the win after allowing only two runs on two hits while striking out a season-high eight batters.  Not allowing a hit until the sixth inning, Wagoner set down eight straight to begin the game and another eight straight after issuing his first of two walks in the third inning.

The Golden Eagles offense was matched up against Phillies starter and reigning NYCBL Pitcher of the Year Mike Fiers (Cumberlands).  Glens Falls finally broke through in the third inning when Chad Stang (Midland) scored on a Jonathan White (Vanderbilt) triple.

Glens Falls would score three in the fifth inning on a Jonathan Koscso (South Florida) single, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch by Stefen Romero (Pima CC) and a passed ball.  Romero reached base twice on a hit-by-pitch in the game, giving him seven on the season.  The Golden Eagles would chase Fiers from the game with one out in the fifth inning and tacked on another run before the inning was over, giving the green and yellow a 5-0 lead.

Jamie Storey (Midland) allowed two runs in relief before yielding to consecutive scoreless innings from Ricky Anaya (Florida Atlantic) and Marc Damon (Pima CC).  Damon picked up his second save of the season in as many days—his first two appearances of the summer.

Glens Falls also received hits from Stang, Romero, Luis Feliz (Rutgers), Nick McCoy (San Diego) and Curt Courtwright (Missouri State).

The Golden Eagles are next in action on Wednesday, June 18 as they host the Eastern Division-leading Amsterdam Mohawks at 7 p.m..
