Davis No-hits Bombers

Glens Falls, NY - The Glens Falls Golden Eagles defeated the Bennington Bombers on Wednesday, June 11 by a score of 6-0 on the strength of Shane Davis’ (Canisius) nine-inning no-hitter.  The win gives Glens Falls a 3-1 record on the season.

Davis allowed one walk, one hit batter and struck out five on the day.  The no-no is the third in Golden Eagles history.  The first was from Mike LaFleur (William and Mary) in 2006 and last season was courtesy of Mike Wanamaker (Penn State).  Davis’ feat was accomplished in a nine-inning game, as opposed to LaFleur’s and Wanamaker’s seven-inning affairs.

Stefen Romero (Pima CC) got the offense started early with a solo shot down the left-field line.  Romero would add another solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh.

This game marked the first appearances of numerous Golden Eagles.  Jonathan White (Vanderbilt), Luis Feliz (Rutgers), Jose Valerio (San Diego) and Nick McCoy (San Diego) made their first starts of the season and made an early impact.  White batted in the third spot and drew a walk for his first at-bat.  On the next pitch, White flew into second for a stolen base and ended up advancing to third on a wild pitch and home on a throwing error by the Bombers catcher trying to recover from the wild pitch.

The Golden Eagles offense, and three errors, led to the chasing of Bombers starting pitcher Kyle Perry (Hartford) from the game after throwing only one inning.  Ben Sonberg (Keene State) relieved Perry for the next six innings and allowed three runs.  Steven Cadoret (Boston College) finished the game on the mound for the Bombers.  The southpaw tossed one inning of no-hit ball.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second when rightfielder Chad Stang (Midland) beat out a run-scoring infield single in the second inning.

The Golden Eagles are next in action on Thursday, June 12 as they make their first trip to Amsterdam, NY to battle the Mohawks at 7p.m. at Shuttlesworth Park.  The next home game for Glens Falls is on Saturday, June 14 when they will host the Little Falls Miners.
