Davis
(GF '08) Earns Second Straight MAAC Rookie of the
Week Award
Griffs open the home schedule with a doubleheader against Iona
Saturday.
Freshman Shane Davis (Belmont, Ont.) was named the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive
week, the league office announced Tuesday. Davis gives the Golden
Griffins their third Rookie of the Week of the season and fifth
award overall, making Canisius the first program in the league to
win five weekly awards this season.
Davis threw his first collegiate complete game in the team’s 3-1
victory at Le Moyne on March 23. The freshman scattered five hits,
allowed one run, walked none and struck out three to improve to 4-0
on the season.
Since allowing four runs in his first collegiate inning, Davis has
allowed just three earned runs in his last 23.1 innings of work for
an ERA of 1.16. On the season, Davis leads the team with his 4-0
record and is second with a 2.59 ERA.
Earlier this season, Canisius swept the weekly awards when Adam
Donato (Jamestown, N.Y.) was named the MAAC Player of the Week,
junior Alex MacKenzie (Keswick, Ont.) was named co-MAAC Pitcher of
the Week and freshman Brian Burton (Kitchener, Ont.) was named the
MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Canisius completes its two-game series at Delaware State on
Wednesday.
