Freshman lefty has an ERA of 1.26 in last 14 1/3 innings pitched.
Freshman Shane Davis (Belmont, Ont.) was named the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced
Monday. Davis gives the Golden Griffins their second Rookie of the
Week of the season, making Canisius the first program in the league
to win the award twice in 2008.
Davis, who has won all three starts in his Canisius career, went six
innings in the team’s 4-2 victory over Mount St. Mary’s in the
first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Davis allowed eight hits,
two runs, one earned, walked one and recorded a strikeout to improve
to 3-0.
Davis has thrown 15 2/3 innings in his three starts and has posted
an ERA of 3.52. After allowing four runs in his first collegiate
inning, Davis has allowed just three runs in his last 14 2/3 innings
of work for an ERA of 1.84.
Earlier this season, Canisius swept the weekly awards when Adam
Donato (Jamestown, N.Y.) was named the MAAC Player of the Week,
junior Alex MacKenzie (Keswick, Ont.) was named co-MAAC Pitcher of
the Week and freshman Brian Burton (Kitchener, Ont.) was named the
MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Canisius, on a six-game winning streak and off to its best start in
the last 54 seasons, returns to the field with a non-conference
doubleheader at West Virginia Tuesday.
