Smith, Lukas Honored By America East

ORONO, Maine--For the second time in as many weeks, University of Maine baseball senior Curt Smith (Willemstad, Curacao) has been named the America East Player of the Week. In addition, freshman Jarrett Lukas (Old Town, Maine) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week.

Smith hit .500 for the Black Bears last week with 10 runs scored and five RBI. He had a double and two home runs to go along with a pair of stolen bases. Smith started the week going 2-for-3 with five run scored and three RBI in Maine's 16-7 win over Delaware State. He had a pair of home runs in the game. He followed that up going 4-for-5 with three runs scored an RBI in Maine's 11-2 victory over the Hornets. Smith had two multi-hit games at UNLV and scored at least one run in all three games against the Rebels.

Lukas hit .333 on the week for the Black Bears with three runs scored and six RBI. He also hit his first career home run on the week. Lukas was 1-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI in Maine's 16-7 win over Delaware State. He belted a three-run home run in the game. He followed that up by 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in the second game of the doubleheader against the Hornets. He had a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning which put the Black Bears ahead for good in the game.
