Carlson (GF '04) and Wells (Saratoga '04) Lead AL Affiliates To Win In New York-Penn League All-Star Game
FISHKILL,
N.Y. - Chris Carlson (Glens Falls '04) smashed a go-ahead RBI
single in the eighth inning as the American League all-stars
rallied to defeat the National League all-stars, 6-4, in the
2007 New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Dutchess County
Stadium. The game pitted all-star teams from American League and
National League affiliates in the New York-Penn League against
one another.
The American
League all-stars rallied back from an early, 4-0, deficit and
took the lead, 5-4, in the eighth inning with a trio of runs,
punctuated by Carlson's RBI single to left field off Tri-City
Valley Cats reliever Jason Dominguez. Casper Wells (Saratoga
'04), Carlson's Oneonta Tigers teammate, had tied the game
earlier in the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Carlson played
the entire game for the American League all-stars as the
designated hitter and was selected as the Player of the Game. He
finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and he was hit by a pitch. Wells
entered the game in the sixth inning and played right field. At
the plate, he was 0-for-1 with one RBI.
For the
National League all-stars, Matt Bouchard (Plattsburgh '05)
started at shorstop and played the first five innings. At the
plate, Bouchard was 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits.
NOTES: Carlson
also competed in the Home Run Derby; he did not make the finals
but smashed four home runs out of Dutchess County
Stadium...Carlson leads the NY-P with nine home runs....Carlson,
Wells and Bouchard were all NYCBL postseason all-stars; Carlson
was a first-team selection in 2004, Wells was a second-team
selection in 2004 and Bouchard was a second-team honoree in
2005.
