Golden Eagles sweep doubleheader

GlENS FALLS * The newly crowned Eastern Division champion Glens Falls Golden Eagles swept a doubleheader from Watertown, beating the Wizards 6-2 and 7-0 in front of a season-high crowd of 512 at East Field. Both games were seven innings.

In the first game, which Glens Falls played as the visitor, Brian Moran (5-2) threw seven innings, allowing two earned runs and five hits. Rian Spanjer-Furste and Joe Mercurio each drove in two runs for the Golden Eagles. Kevin Mahoney was 2-for-4.

In the nightcap, Mahoney kept up the hot bat, going 2-for-4 again and driving in two runs. Scott Denault pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the win.

Casey Larson and Eric Pelot each drove in a run and Brad Johnson went 2-for-2.

The Eagles, who will open up the playoffs with a home game on Monday, play a doubleheader against Bennington today. The games, both scheduled for nine innings, are at 4 and 7 p.m.
