Golden Eagles postpone game
GLENS FALLS * The Glens Falls Golden Eagles ’ home game against Amsterdam on Wednesday was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up this coming Monday.
The Eagles, first in the NYCBL Eastern Division, are scheduled to host second-place Saratoga today at 7 p.m.
Brunelle makes H.S. rodeo nationals
SCHUYLERVILLE * Fred Brunelle, 18, a 2007 graduate of Schuylerville High School, will compete in the 59th annual National High School Finals Rodeo in Springfield, Ill., from Sunday through Saturday, July 28.
Brunelle and his partner, Frankie Fernandez of Johnstown, will compete for the state of Pennsylvania in the team roping category. Fernandez ropes the steer ’s head, while Brunelle ropes its hind feet.
Since New York doesn ’t have high school rodeos, the pair traveled to Pennsylvania throughout the spring. They were the reserve champions at the Pennsylvania State Rodeo Championships and also won a competition and set arena records at an invitational in Ontario, Canada.
Brunelle ropes at Painted Pony in Lake Luzerne and Riding High in Warrensburg, where he was the header champion last year.
The pair is scheduled to compete in the preliminaries on Tuesday and Thursday.
Radio show on Saratoga coming up
SARATOGA SPRINGS * Track Talk LIVE!, a new radio program, will air Saturday, July 28 at 9 a.m. The 60-minute program will be heard on 1160 AM Moon Radio and on the web at www.saratogamoon.com/index.htm. The show will be heard every Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. on July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 11, Aug. 18, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1.
The show ’s hosts will be Parting Glass Racing founder and managing owner Tom Gallo, in the booth, and Saratoga Special publisher and author Sean Clancy, on the backstretch. Each show will include four segments, including Saratoga Race Course news and events, celebrity guests in the booth with Gallo taking calls from listeners, live jockey and trainer interviews with Clancy and handicapping with Daily Racing Form ’s Andy Serling.
SRA ’s Chase retires; Catalano appointed
SARATOGA SPRINGS * Chris Chase, Saratoga Rowing Association Executive Director and Head Coach, has formally retired from his position after starting the club 11 years ago.
The SRA Board of Directors has appointed former SRA varsity women ’s head coach Eric Catalano to replace Chase.
Chase was a social studies teacher at Saratoga Springs High School when he started the program at the request of students. He helped turn the program into one of the strongest in New York and the country. Under his leadership, the SRA has had six national championship boats, raised the funds for an eight-shell, year-round boathouse and developed rowers that have earned more than $5 million in college rowing scholarships.
Catalano, who will begin his position in mid-August, is currently the women ’s novice coach at Harvard University and Radcliffe College. He is also the head coach of the U.S. Rowing Junior Women ’s Development Camp.
During his time with the SRA, he coached two women ’s varsity boats to national and North American championships.
Ti booster club announces inductees
TICONDEROGA * The Ticonderoga Booster Club Hall of Fame Committee announced that Darren D ’Attilio (class of 1991), Sean McLaughlin (class of 1992), Beth Jzyk (class of 1996) and Susan Pocket-Tucker (class of 1997) will be inducted into the Ticonderoga Sentinel Booster Club Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 5 during halftime of Ticonderoga ’s varsity football game.
Also, the undefeated 1960 Sentinel football team will be honored with induction at this year ’s ceremony.
Saratoga Polo cancelled
SARATOGA SPRINGS * Saratoga Polo ’s match for Wednesday was cancelled due to excessive rain. The next Saratoga Polo match is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m.
