Two Golden Eagles Named All-Big Ten
Two Glens
Falls Golden Eagles have received recognition from the Big Ten
for the 2007 season. Michigan’s Nate Recknagel (Glens Falls
’06) and Northwestern’s Jake Owens (Glens Falls ’07) were
both selected second-team All-Big Ten.
Recknagel, a junior, batted .345 with a team-high nine home runs
and 48 runs batted in during the regular season. He has
increased his batting average to .377 entering the NCAA
tournament. Recknagel walked a team-high 38 times during the
regular season and collected 61 hits, 49 runs, 16 doubles and a
.599 slugging percentage. Last season, Recknagel was selected
second-team All-Big Ten in his first season with Michigan after
transferring from Oakland University. At Oakland, Recknagel was
a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. Last summer, he
played for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles and was selected
second-team All-NYCBL as a designated hitter.
Owens, a junior, batted a team-high .385 with 39 runs batted in.
The junior set Northwestern’s single-season hit record with 85
hits. He entered the final weekend of the season needing nine
hits to set the record and Owens ended up recording 12 hits in
his last four games. Owens led all Big Ten third basemen in
batting average and stolen bases (18). The Stevens Point,
Wisconsin, native started 99 straight games at second base (over
his first three seasons), before moving to third after 11 games
this year. In three years at Northwestern, Owens has started all
142 games he has played. The junior will play for the Glens
Falls Golden Eagles this summer
