Eagles, Phillies rained out

Published on 7/2/2005

The Golden Eagles and the Saratoga Phillies NYCBL games scheduled for Friday were rained out.

In the meantime, the Eagles will try to revamp their roster with the losses of Michigan State pitchers Drew Mahan and Matt Trausch. Eagles' coach John Mayotte said the team hopes to fill those to empty spots with pitchers as soon as Monday.

"We need greater pitching depth," Mayotte said. "We're still in the process of talking to coaches. There are some schools we've been in contact with, but its tough to pick up players this late into the summer leagues."

The Phillies have improved with the help of the latest additions to its team in Grayden Griener and Robbie Whitman of Tulane.

"We need players who can help immediately," Mayotte added.

Both teams will resume play today when the Eagles play at Geneva in a double-header while Saratoga will host Alfred at East Side Rec at 7 p.m., also in a double-header.
