Two 2009 MLB Draft picks remain productive

Eric Arnett and Chad Stang impressive in rookie ball.

GLENS FALLS—Two former Glens Falls Golden Eagles from the 2008 team that nearly won the New York Collegiate Baseball League Championship, center fielder Chad Stang (Midland College) and right-handed pitcher Eric Arnett (Indiana), were both selected by the Milwaukee Brewers organization in the eighth and first rounds respectively and are now playing rookie ball with the Helena Brewers in the Pioneer League.

Though the team has struggled this season, finishing 12 games under .500 and 10 games out of first, they were even both on the road and at home.

Stang, whose biggest game came at home against the first place Great Falls Voyagers (42-34) when he went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Brewers' 8-7 win, finished the season with 24 runs scored, five doubles, 43 hits, and 18 RBI.  Stang led the team with four triples, playing in 52-of-76 games. His five stolen bases helped Helena lead the entire Pioneer League.

Arnett started the third most games on the Brewers' pitching staff this season, appearing 14 games and starting in nine games.

Though Arnett still searches for his first professional win after pitching more than 34 innings this season, his 17 earned runs, 35 strikeouts, one homerun, and 21 walks  made him one of the Brewers solid pitching prospects.

Arnett held opponents to a mere .228 all season, with his most impressive start coming against those same Voyagers when he struck out five in more than five innings pitched and allowed two earned runs on four hits.
