Zamzow, Golden Eagles top Amsterdam again
AMSTERDAM -- The Glens Falls Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first inning and let pitcher Brett Zamzow do the rest Thursday.
The Golden Eagles topped Amsterdam, 2-0, in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Shuttleworth Field to improve to 16-3.
Terry Blunt got things started in the first by hitting a single. Ryan Basham followed with an RBI double and he later scored on Aaron Hepner's RBI single.
Zamzow improved his record to 5-0 by going the distance for the win. He struck out five and walked three.
Amsterdam (8-9) had two bases-loaded situations, but failed to convert on either. Their best chance to score came with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, but right fielder and Queensbury product Will Groff caught a line drive and doubled up the runner at first base to end the inning.
Glens Falls plays at Watertown tonight before returning home Saturday to face Plattsburgh in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
